What is a blind spot?

A blind spot in driving is any spot that you cannot see using your side or interior mirrors.

Look at the below diagram where the sections highlighted in blue are visible by your mirrors but the sections highlighted in red aren’t visible by your mirrors. The red sections are your blind spots.

Why is it important to check your blind spots?

Checking your blind spots ensures you’re fully aware of what’s going on around you which can prevent accidents such as missing the fast approach of a motorcycle on your sides.

How to check blind spots?

Turn your head to the left or the right so that your chin is aligned with your shoulder.

Don’t turn your body too much if not needed as it can result in the steering wheel moving. Don’t look for too long either, otherwise you’ll miss what’s going on in front of you.
