A regulated activity is any activity listed in Part 2 of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 that requires a person/firm to obtain explicit authorization from the FCA before carrying it out.

Examples include:

  • Issuing electronic money
  • Carrying out contracts of insurance
  • Arranging deals in investments
  • Advising on investments
  • Arranging regulated mortgage contracts
  • Debt counselling
  • Debt administration
  • Providing credit references
