What is GNU?

GNU refers to the collection of components and tools that are widely used in Unix operating systems. This includes things like the Emacs editor, the GCC compiler, Bash, coreutils (which provides commands like chown, chmod, chgrp, ls, mv, rm, cat), grep, assembler, linker, and tools for manipulating binaries.
