In a nutshell

A bit (short for “Binary Digit”) represents a single binary number (0 or 1). Computers use micro-transistors to represent a bit. When the transistor switch is on, you have a 1. When it’s off, you have a 0.

Other notes

  • 8 bits = 1 byte
